Health Sciences Diversity

Sponsored by the Center for Adolescent and Young Adult Health at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Center for Continuing Education in the Health Sciences, TransPride Pgh, the Persad Center, and the Delta Foundation.  The conference will educate medical and and behavioral health professionals on Transgender-related issues. 

Learning objectives:

1. Recognize the medical management of transgender individuals, which will include pubertal blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgical options.

 2. Demonstrate cultural competency for transgender and gender expansive youth, such as using the correct terminology, understanding the concepts of gender, and making the clinic a safe and welcoming space.

3. Recognize systematic barriers to obtaining health care services for transgender and gender expansive youth and apply skills to navigate the health care system for this vulnerable population.
